Experience of America, the cycle and the exhibition that at the very mid-century agitated the relatively still waters of the domestic painting of the time. Murtić’s journey across the ocean did not, in fact, result in just the new scenes and the less expected big-city, technologically pointed-up panoramas, but also in an enlargement of the formal repertoire, an assimilation of innovative procedures, in a lightening of the radical poetics: the brushstroke speeded up, the blotches more relaxed, the colours more intense, the formats more aggressive and the contrasts more emphatic….
